While I was on a Shop Hop last Fall, I saw a quilt with stunning colors and simple design at Jennifer’s Quilt Shop in Pinckney.  I rarely purchase an already kitted quilt but I made an exception.

The pattern is “Gold Medal” by Villa Rosa Designs but I added the two stripes at the top and bottom of the quilt.  The original size was 41″ x 52″ but with the addition it is measures 41″ x 64″.  I could not add to the width of the quilt top because I did not have enough backing fabric to do so.  The original pattern would make a nice charity quilt.

This quilt will be a retirement gift for my sister because she just loves these colors.

Oh how I love to make pillowcases…  This one is even more special as it has a beautiful, soft quilted cuff.  I used every last inch of 6 FQ’s for the cuff on the pillowcase and the Happy Blocks on the quilt.

The body of the pillowcase is the most delightful fabric called “Whimsy”, A “Fresh Water Designs” collection from E.E. Schenck Company.  I used this same fabric for the backing on the baby quilt for Kaylee, “Happy Blocks in the Garden of Whimsy”.

The label for the quilt was created from the backing fabric as well using the selvage edges as finished edges for the label.

Another quilt top finish!

What beautiful colors pulled from my stash.  A mix of fabric design, dark value fabrics are traditional and light/medium fabrics are modern.  They really do play together well much to my surprise.

A visit to a new quilt shop in South Carolina, Sew Many Common Threads, for backing and binding fabric.  I pulled no less than 6-8 bolts before making a final decision.  And the winner is… Somerest by Joanna Figneros, Fig Tree & Co for Moda #20236.  What sweet, lovely print and soft, beautiful color.  Next decisions… Machine quilt or Long Arm quilt and Somerest or Irresistible Fruit for binding.
